Italian Gardens, Seafront, Penarth
These attractive gardens are full of colourful species of flora suited to the sea. Each summer, the parks and roundabouts in Penarth are planted with thousands of colourful plants, hence the name "The Garden by the Sea"

Looking to the shore from Penarth Pier.
Opened in 1894, Penarth pier was damaged in 1947 when a former U.S. Liberty Ship hit the pier broadside on. Repaired shortly afterwards, the Pier is now in splendid shape; and admission is free.
Many visitors to Wales have heard of our lovely Capital City and its surrounds, but have never been here before.
Lying on the northern shores of the fast running Bristol Channel, some 15 miles wide at this point, Cardiff has been a major seaport for around 150 years. Built with the wealth that millions of tons of exported minerals created, the city these days is vastly changed to that of just 20 years ago.
Cardiff, the Capital City of Wales since 1957, "Europe's Youngest Capital", with a rising population of 300,000, is a vibrant growing city, with a large university, a medical college, the new Welsh Assembly, the St. David's Concert Hall, the Cardiff International Arena, the under-construction Wales Millenium Centre for the Performing Arts, and, of course, the renowned Millenium Sports Stadium, seating 72,000.
Cardiff is a visitors paradise, with hundreds of friendly stores, shops, restaurants, nightclubs, museums and attractions.
Overlooking the Bristol Channel, the city centre is totally level, but surrounded on 3 sides by imposing hill ranges.
At Cardiff's centre is the magnificent Cardiff Castle with acres of surrounding parkland. Tours of the castle are one of the highlights of a stay here. For more information, click here.
Penarth lies on the southwest side of the city, on the edge of the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan, a 15 minute drive from the City Centre. Penarth, which can be roughly translated as "Bear's Head", was so named by ancient mariners, who used the 200ft (65m) high headland as a navigation waymark from seawards. According to tradition, the headland's profile shows the outline of the head of a bear, thus "Penarth" was born.
